The “Stone Spoke Worm Talk” exhibition is centered around the idea of painting as metaphor for fossils – how various moments of time, life and information become compressed into one image that is frozen and complete yet still suggests a past that is visually present.
I have been drawn to bits of information from various fossils and pre fossilized items such as rock formations, trees, dried flowers, seeds and matter both incapable of change and still evolving.
From these origins, a body of fast drawings begins to emerge, combined with other drawings, reworked, overlapped, textured, layered and nurtured in a process akin to accelerated fossilization. And like fossils, the paintings are then fixed in time yet remain an abstract visual rumination of pasts unknown.
